My passion for fitness began at an early age while studying and working in the medical field and soon I was moonlighting as an aerobics instructor. Like many of us, I tried most every type of fitness program out there – searching for that “just right way” to achieve the best results. I continued working part-time as a personal trainer while struggling with my own back injury and subsequent back surgery. In 2006 I was introduced to Pilates and quickly realized the life changing effects that Pilates had to offer. In 2009 I entered the comprehensive Pilates certification program through Body Arts and Sciences Int. and obtained my BASI certification in May 2010. While sharing this passion I have continued my own education and have added PMA certification as well. I welcome the opportunity to help others experience the amazing world of Pilates!

BASI Certified Pilates Instructor
(Dance Specialization)

I am a mover. I love sharing the thrill of the moving body. I am also a performing artist, I’ve danced professionally in the San Francisco, Los Angeles, and, most recently, San Diego areas. Although Pilates-based exercises regularly made appearances my dance classes, I was officially introduced to Pilates relatively late in my dancer-life, by Karen Clippinger at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). Years of moving with dysfunctional alignment made core control seem impossible. And yet, Pilates worked it’s magic. By the end of the semester, I had found a new sense of ease and freedom in both my dancing and Pilates work. I was hooked.

I am now a BASI certified Pilates instructor with a Dance Specialization and I currently teach Pilates-based courses to the CSULB Dance Majors. I’m excited to teach Pilates to all types of people so that they might enjoy the energy, strength, and balance Pilates readily yields. I have a BFA in Dance and a BA in Communication from UCSB, and a MFA in Dance from CSULB.

In my twenties and early thirties I taught 60 hour a week of swimming classes at the College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, NY. I taught all the college classes from beginners to life saving and instructors and coached the swim team, diving team and syncronized swimming teams. I also taught babies through pre-competetive classes for 8-12/14 years olds to keep them in shape for the summer swim club teams. My whole family taught swimming every summer.. I started when I was like 6! My mom would say “teach this little one how to blow bubbles”… well it became my career.. we were all natural teachers hands down!

When in the late 90’s, my spiritual teacher was doing Pilates, so I tried a private. I loooved it instantly! I started going to a mat class that had 5 ballet dancers and me!!! oh dear! In 2000 at the age of 50, I took my first mat training and the day after started teaching 2 class a week at LA Fitness in Encinitas.. soon it was 4 a week. I was given a reformer, watched endless videos and I started teaching on that at home. In 2004, I did Kathy Corey’s Training at Pilates of North County.

Since then I have taught at Pilates at the Ranch, Pilates of North County and at my home studio Having burned out 4 and a half years ago and needing a rest, I took a break and I studied Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, a somatic form of energy medicine and healing. I am thrilled to now to be “back in the saddle” teaching Pilates at Pilates on Cue. During this time I also have been taking qigong classes with Fay McGrew and Feldenkrais lessons with Anita Noone. All this has deepened my skills as a teacher, healer and human being. I have the gift of injuries and aging under my belt, adding to great wisdom in my teaching.

BASI Certified Pilates Instructor
Arcus Essentials Level 1 and 2, McEntire Pilates

I attended my first Pilates session shortly after turning 50, while living in Santa Barbara, California. Even though I had been a lifelong runner, I immediately became hooked on the therapeutic benefits of Pilates and continued to practice for the next six years. After moving to Carlsbad, California and semi-retiring from a career as a paralegal, I had the opportunity to pursue my passion for Pilates and obtained my certification from Body Arts and Science International.

I love the challenge of exploring movement with each of my clients whether it be regaining strength after an injury, surgery or simply the joy of movement. Dealing with injuries in my own body, I have a deep appreciation for the work and how dedication to strengthening the core and gaining overall muscle strength and flexibility can result in moving pain free.

Believing that one’s Pilates journey is a lifelong commitment in education has led me to attend workshops with Pat Guyton, Karen Clippinger, Rael Isacowitz, to name a few, all of whom are leaders in the field. It has also prompted me to explore alternative methods of movement, including workshops with Eric Franklin, “The Franklin Method” and Liz Koch, author of “The Psoas Book.”

I continue to maintain a personal goal to assist my clients to become better aware of their own movement and connection to their bodies while enjoying the benefits continued movement brings to one’s everyday life.

Ten years later, I am still in love with Pilates and the continued benefits it brings to my body and my life! Pilates is for every body and every age group!

BASI Certified Pilates Instructor

Pilates was first introduced to me as a Ballet and Modern dancer in my teens. It continues to be a vital component of my fitness and conditioning for dance, cycling and running. I feel that Pilates offers a level of mind-over-body precision unmatched in any other discipline and the work is transformative beyond it’s physical benefits. In College I pursued a degree in Fine Art, and this is perhaps why I regard physical fitness as itself an art form. I approach the acquisition of fitness goals much in the way I would a blank canvas, with a vision and a determined, strategic plan of action. I believe everyone is an artist with the ability to transform themselves, redesign their bodies, their health and ultimately their lives.
